G20 Energy Efficiency Policies and Measures

South Africa

Description: The National Energy Efficiency Strategy (NEES) was approved in 2005 and sets a 12% final energy demand reduction target for 2015, relative to a reference projection. It was reviewed in 2008 and the global objective was broken down into specific sectoral targets: 10% for the residential sector, 15% each for the commercial, industrial, mining and power generation sectors, and 9% for transport. The NEES was again revised and published in July 2013 after a public consultation (NEES second review).
