G20 Energy Efficiency Policies and Measures


Description: In the "Energy Strategy", the country's energy savings potential was estimated at 40-45% of the 2009 consumption level (approximately 650 Mtoe).

A decree of 2008 sets an energy efficiency goal of 40% by 2020 via incentives and new standards on consuming technologies. According to the plan, 22% of the projected savings are to come from oil, gas and coal companies, including refining and transportation; 44% is to be saved by major consumers in the areas of housing and utilities; 15% will come from the rest of the industrial sector; and the remaining 19% will come from improved power distribution.
